I recently read an article from Bob Violino about The Growing Complexity of Data Integration. The article is in regard to organization’s deprecating functionality traditionally supported by monolithic ERP systems in favor of best-of-breed, cloud and SaaS based applications. This fracturing of core ERP functionality will create an even more complicated IT landscape fraught with data integration challenges. Read more
I recently read a great blog post on smartdatacollective.com, From Master Data to Master Graph by Peter Perera. I found myself agreeing with almost everything in the post, particularly once I realised he was using terminology slightly differently to how we would here at Magnitude Software (in particular I suspect he and I think of different things when we refer to “MDM Applications”). What’s interesting is that although I’m in broad agreement with the arguments made, I’m not yet convinced with his conclusion of the post (which as I understood it is that graph database technology is the best foundation for master data management systems). In a recent TDWI interview, Jonathan Geiger, executive VP of Intelligent Solutions Inc, discussed how to improve the process of requirements gathering for BI projects. Several things immediately stood out from the interview as his suggestions were quite consistent with the methodology and technology at Kalido.
During the past year, David Haam steered Magnitude Software’s IT team through a challenging corporate merger and he is now gearing up for the rapid corporate growth expected in 2015. Read more

You are managing Noetix’s recently launched Customer Success Program. Can you tell us a little bit about it?

For years, business users have been using Microsoft Excel to analyze and share data. It’s a very flexible tool, but is limited when it comes to protecting the data in your spreadsheets. We routinely hear stories about people sending sensitive information within spreadsheets to the wrong people or tediously copying and pasting data into separate files for different audiences. There are some options on the market for password protecting entire spreadsheets, but we were surprised to find that there really isn’t anything out there that helps protect the data itself. I was at a standstill on a blog that I alluded to in my previous Thick as a Brick submission when I ran across a similar theme from Jonathan Feldman on Information Week Global CIO, No One Likes Petulant Teenagers. The premise that I alluded to was that many CIOs are in the business of damage control and thus have no bandwidth left to be visionary. Read more

As Noetix starts its 20th year in business, the last 12 years with venture capital investors, an exciting new chapter begins with Silverback ownership and the vision to see our unique solutions reach their full potential in the market. Silverback is a well-financed business with expertise in acquiring and growing industry leading software companies. From my early discussions with them, I was excited that this acquisition would propel Noetix forward in its growth strategy while maintaining its focus on the current core business. Read more
