QUESTION: What does it mean that NoetixViews is “Metadata Based”?
ANSWER: When a Noetix view is initially designed by our Engineering team, it is built as a SQL query. This is identical to the process that an IT developer would follow to build a custom view. However, before the view gets added to NoetixViews, it is broken apart into its component pieces: columns, tables, where clauses, etc. Each of those pieces is stored separately in a collection of database tables. Those tables are part of the NoetixViews Metadata Repository.
Because of the power of the Noetix products that use this metadata, this approach provides great flexibility and convenience. Noetix MetaBuilder (the “engine” that builds NoetixViews) reads details of the local configuration of Oracle E-Business Suite and blends that information with the NoetixViews metadata to generate views that match this EBS configuration. Noetix Search uses the same metadata to create the search index that helps users find the right views for building their reports. Finally, Noetix Generator uses the same metadata to build the data model for the BI platform (whether that’s Oracle BI EE, IBM Cognos, SAP BusinessObjects, Microsoft BI, or some other platform).
All of that automation is made possible because the views are defined as metadata, stored in the metadata repository tables.
