Executive Q & A with Jon Amos, General Manager, Consulting

We recently caught up with Jon Amos, General Manager, Consulting, and asked him a few questions about the potential for growth in Professional Services, as well as plans for the year.  Jon has over 20 years of experience in Operational Management and Consulting, with a focus in Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management, and Business Automation.  He currently manages the Consulting and Managed Services teams globally, with highly skilled people located in the US, UK, and India.

Research conducted late last year suggests that the market for services provided by business and technology consultancies to develop and implement Business Intelligence systems is growing at a compound annual growth rate of more than 15%. The global market for these services is expected to almost double over the next four years, from an estimated $54.5 billion in 2012 to $96.9 billion in 2016.

Is Noetix expecting to experience this level of growth during this same period?

The short answer to this question is, yes.

Even though Noetix is relatively small compared to the overall market, we are experiencing the same percentage of growth within our Business Intelligence consultancy business.  If you look at Noetix’s performance in 2012, our overall consulting growth was about 22%, which is greater than the 15% average global market growth in BI consulting.  If you look just at the growth in Analytics consulting for 2012, Noetix grew an amazing 68%!  Entering 2013, it appears that our overall growth will at least match the projected market average rate of 15%. Our growth in Analytics consulting is also expected to exceed the 15% average and we do expect Operational consulting to experience moderate growth moving forward.  With these results in both 2012 and 2013, Noetix is likely to almost double our consulting revenue between 2012 and 2016.

What is the Noetix Professional Services group planning to do in order to support this growth, and also make sure that customers continue to see Noetix as a Business Intelligence leader?

In 2012, our team was able to support record growth by increasing the utilization of our Consulting and Managed Services staff and by relying heavily on Noetix Engineering for help and support.  In 2013, the Professional Services organization will increase headcount.  We plan to recruit new senior consultants with previous experience with Data Warehousing, Informatica, and general business intelligence. In addition to hiring, we will also invest in training for existing team members to increase our knowledge and experience.  This knowledge increase and the addition of new senior resources will continue to demonstrate our commitment to our product and BI overall.

What do you do for fun?

I travel a fair amount on business, but I still enjoy traveling with my family (my wife, son and daughter).  One of our most memorable trips was back in the summer of 2008.  We flew to Rome and spent four days there before heading out on a 12 day cruise around the Mediterranean.  We got a chance to go to Kusadasi, Turkey; Athens, Greece; the Greek Islands of Mykonos, Santorini, and Rhodes; and finally on to Alexandria, Egypt and Naples, Italy on the way back into Rome.  It was a wonderful three week trip that we’ll never forget.
