QUESTION: What is Noetix’s position on Mobile BI?
ANSWER: Without a doubt, mobile BI is one of the hottest trends in the Business Intelligence industry. Smart phones (led by Apple’s iPhone and Motorola’s Droid) are nearly ubiquitous; tablets (led by Apple’s iPad, Amazon’s Kindle Fire, and other challengers) represent a growing market.
BI platform vendors now recognize the importance of this market. New releases from every major BI platform vendor were launched in 2011, focused on mobile BI features. For Noetix, mobile BI is important, but not central to our product features and engineering efforts.
Noetix BI provides a collection of data models (for real-time operational reporting and for analytic reporting from a data warehouse) along with automatic integration of those data models into major BI platforms (Oracle BI EE, Oracle Discoverer, IBM Cognos, SAP BusinessObjects, and Microsoft BI). In addition, Noetix can integrate into most other BI platforms, including MicroStrategy, Jaspersoft, Tableau, and QlikTech.
As each of those BI platforms adds mobile capabilities, those features allow mobile BI users to access the same Noetix data models as desktop BI (or browser-based BI) users. Dashboards built for an iPad or KPIs delivered to a smart phone can be built (usually faster and more simply) using the Noetix data models.
Mobile BI will continue to grow in importance. As it does, users can be confident that they will see more and more options that place mobile devices on par with traditional BI clients. When they do, Noetix will provide the same value it does today.
