EBS Migration Digest

Whether you’re looking to take advantage of new functionality, support compliance requirements or improve performance and reliability, the decision to migrate or upgrade to Oracle EBS on-premises or on Oracle Cloud isn’t one you’ll take lightly. The results can be rewarding, though the process daunting. To help you prepare for such a project, Magnitude gathered some lessons learned from those in the industry who already travelled this path.

Oracle EBS Migration Lessons Learned:

  • Overcome these six challenges to an Oracle EBS implementation, SearchOracle, Adam Hughes

Vitamix’s Director of IT, Brian Swab, shares tips to overcome the top six challenges the company faced during its 18-month long Oracle EBS implementation.

“In the span of 18 months, not only was Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) up and running, but Vitamix also replatformed all web properties, such as Oracle ATG Web Commerce, and implemented a global data center. Here are the six challenges to Vitamix’s Oracle EBS implementation, and what the company did to overcome them throughout its implementation process.”

  • DBA offers tips for navigating murky Oracle EBS 12.2.5 upgrade waters, SearchOracle, Adam Hughes

A step-by-step tactical guide for businesses looking to upgrade from Oracle EBS 12.1.3 to 12.2.5.

“To get started and, more importantly, to avoid confusion, Syed said admins should reference “Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2: Technical Planning, Getting Started, and Go-Live Checklist” (Doc ID 1585857.1) to ease the installation process and have as a guide throughout the upgrade. Another helpful guide is “Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 Information Center – Upgrade” (Doc ID 1583158.1).”

Oracle EBS on Oracle Cloud:

  • With Cloud, Irving Materials Inc.’s Financial Reporting No Longer Set In Concrete, Forbes, Chris Murphy

Irving Materials Inc. decided to make the leap from on-premises Oracle EBS 11i, originally implemented in 1999, to Oracle ERP Cloud and saw big improvements in usability.

“Speed of reporting is a major improvement Irving Materials gained with cloud ERP. In the past, the group of companies used Excel spreadsheets and a third-party app to pull financial data, and it would take 30 to 60 minutes to refresh a set of financials after making a correction. Using the Essbase tools embedded in Oracle ERP Cloud, which outputs to Excel, a refresh of financials takes just 30 to 60 seconds.”

  • Part 1: Running Oracle E-Business Suite on Oracle Cloud, Oracle Blog, Steven Chan

An overview of the ability to run EBS in the Oracle Cloud, and capabilities once customers make the transition.

“You can now run Oracle E-Business Suite on Oracle Cloud. EBS customers can take advantage of rapid environment provisioning, elastic infrastructure that scales up on demand, and a pay-as-you-go model to reduce capital expenditures. EBS customers have the option of deploying their EBS 12.1.3 and 12.2 environments on the Oracle Compute Cloud Service, and optionally in combination with the Oracle Database Cloud Service (DBCS), or the Exadata Cloud Service.

Magnitude Can Help:

If you’re considering upgrading Oracle EBS or migrating it to the cloud, Magnitude NoetixViews and Magnitude Noetix Analytics can simplify and automate the process of accessing critical business information from Oracle EBS and other ERPs and applications. Simply, when it comes to your Oracle data, our Magnitude Noetix solutions bring your business the ability to: access, analyze and act on the right information for business decisions.

They have the capability to:

  • Insulate from EBS database structural changes inherent with upgrades. Keep the ETL process (and everything downstream from it) working, regardless of changes to EBS.
  • Minimize report downtime during EBS upgrades.
  • Eliminate rework and disruptions by providing metadata consistency across new application releases. We achieve this by keeping our view layer (for NoetixViews) and our ODS/DM layers (for Noetix Analytics) consistent even as new application versions are released.
